No rice, no hair dryer
Rice leaves starch dust in the port and does little for a sealed phone. Hot air softens the adhesive holding an older iPhone together. Compressed air at point blank range drives droplets deeper into the cavity.
The battery myth, and two other dead ends

Do not ignore the Lightning port
Port and speaker share the bottom edge, and on a phone this age the port is usually dirtier. A lint plug holds moisture beside the speaker cavity and can make the phone act as though an accessory is plugged in, routing audio away from you.
